Welcome to the Miriam Switching Post

You've just discovered one of St. Louis' best-kept secrets!

Antique dealers shop with us to find vintage mahogany, primitives and collectibles. Home stagers find clean, inexpensive, and stylish furnishings. Decorators bring their clients to shop for one-of-a-kind pieces. Students can furnish an entire apartment for pennies on the dollar.

We have furniture, housewares and decorative items for the whole house – including your home office or patio. And, because we're on a mission to raise funds for the Miriam School, items are tax-free and priced to sell fast!

Shopping At Miriam

The Miriam Switching Post accepts donations of gently used furniture and household items for re-sale. We do not take items on consignment, all items for sale have been donated to us.
Because all items in the store are donated, we never know what the selection will be from one day to the next. Items tend to sell quickly (sometimes within minutes!) and our selection changes frequently.

  • We cannot take names/numbers to call when certain items come in.
  • Sales are 'first come–first served', we do not hold or lay-away items.
  • We can store paid-for items for up to 7 days so you can arrange pick-up or delivery.
  • We accept cash, checks, Mastercard, Visa & Discover.
  • Items are priced 'as is'; all sales are final so please consider your purchase carefully..
  • Shop often to find the best merchandise!

About the Miriam Switching Post

Established over 60 years ago as a philanthropic project by Miriam Members to benefit The Miriam Foundation, Miriam Switching Post was first located in the West End, and then in Clayton, and the last 15 years in Maplewood on S. Big Bend. In September of 2015, we moved to our present (bigger & better) location at 292 Hanley Industrial Court in Brentwood.

From its beginning, Miriam Switching Post has sold fine antiques, collectibles, and gently used furniture. Through the years, the shop has generated a loyal following who enjoy hunting for treasures and who appreciate our charitable mission. Antique dealers, interior decorators, artists and other experts are constant customers who often donate valuable appraisal advice.

The Miriam Switching Post has evolved over these many years but the core mission remains the same; to raise needed funds to support the families that rely on the services of Miriam; The Learning Disability Experts.

Over 30 years ago, Miriam volunteers branched out into new opportunities for fundraising. Within the last few years, our successful Empty-Out Service was developed into yet another way to raise funds and serve the needs of Saint Louis families.

Miriam Switching Post continues to grow with our new location and we have expanded to selling on eBay reaching a world-wide audience, all thanks to the ideas and efforts of our over 50 loyal volunteers and staff.

Proceeds from the sale of your donated items help support the Miriam School and Learning Center (located at 501 Bacon Ave in Webster Groves).

The Miriam School

The school program is currently designed for children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade who have learning, speech/language, sensory/motor, and attention disabilities.

Through a team approach, small class size, and specialized instruction, Miriam School provides a variety of accommodations and curriculum modifications designed to meet the academic needs and support the social skills development of each of its 96 students.

The Learning Center

In September 2007, the Learning Center opened to provide services to students, ages three to 18 years, who wish to remain in their current educational environment but need specialized in-school, after-school, or weekend support services to meet their potential.

The Learning Center annually serves 700 children who attend over 120 different private, public, or parochial schools, or are homeschooled.

Miriam – the Learning Disability Experts, a BBB Accredited Charity, has been providing services to the St. Louis community for 102 years. In 2012, Miriam won the BBB TORCH Award for exceptional ethical business practices and customer service.
