Dropping off donated items

Donating to the Miriam Switching Post

We gratefully accept clean, gently used or new furniture and household items. You can trust our insured professional movers to pick up from inside your home – no need to move items to the first floor or front porch! We also accept walk-in donations of small items anytime during our open hours.

Use the Donation Pick-Up form or call 314-646-7737 to schedule FREE pick-up of large furniture donations.
Some locations will be outside of our pick-up range but we will let you know when we respond to your request.

(See a list of acceptable items below)

Dropping Off Donations

Drop off donations any time we are open – Monday through Saturday from 10 to 4 (Wednesday until 7pm & Sunday 12 to 4).

➀ Main Entry

Bring smaller items and boxes (things that can easily be carried) in the main entry. You may use the elevator rather than the stairs, the drop-off counter is to the right at the bottom of the stairs.

➁ Large Items–Drop-Offs & Pick-Ups

Furniture and large items (not easily carried) should be dropped off at the rear entry. You can park on the ramp (drop-off & pick-up only) to get access to the white garage door. If the door is locked, please ring the bell.

Items too heavy to lift/carry on your own? When picking up or dropping off furniture or large/heavy purchases, please plan on bringing your own help* and equipment. Our movers are on a tight delivery/pick-up schedule and are not always here to assist with purchases.

*Volunteer staff cannot do heavy lifting.

 Need to Arrange a Delivery?

We offer delivery service for purchased furniture starting at $75. With no obligation, our Donations Manager will call you to quote a price dependent on distance and number of pieces and set a delivery date. We also have a list of reputable moving services for your convenience.

✽ We now offer FREE delivery on Purchases over $1000.00!

Moving? Redecorating? Having an Estate Sale?
    Get started with this check-list:

  • DECIDE what you want to take with you when you move, or what items the family wants to keep. Give relatives a deadline for picking up their choices.
  • GO THROUGH purses, pockets of clothing, look under the mattress, etc. We have often found diamond rings in robe pockets and dollar bills tucked into books.
  • SORT THROUGH personal papers you no longer need and shred anything with Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, etc.
  • EVALUATE. If you are planning to have an estate sale or an empty-out, WAIT TO THROW ANYTHING AWAY OR GIVE ANYTHING TO CHARITY unless it’s really trash or perishable. Let your estate sale agent or our team decide what is saleable or reusable and what is not.
  • SCHEDULE an appointment with our Donations Manager or a reputable estate sale agent – we will be happy to give you some names to call.
  • COMPARE. If there is not enough to have an estate sale or if the condo association will not allow a sale, consider selling items on the Internet, or look under “estate sales” in the Yellow Pages for dealers who do “contents buy-outs.” But sometimes a tax donation letter will have more value.
  • DONATE! If you itemize your income taxes, why not donate the furniture and decorative household items? We pick up for free, and will provide an itemized inventory on our letterhead for your tax purposes.
